The brief was a main bedroom and en-suite without losing the character of a 1930s house the owners loved. We went hip to gable with a flat roof rear dormer, which gave them a 21 square metre bedroom and a shower room with full head height.
The staircase was the detail that mattered: we continued the original handrail profile and had the spindles turned to match, so the new flight reads as part of the house rather than an addition.
Steels went in on day four, the dormer was weathertight by day eleven, and the family stayed in the house for the whole build. Building control signed off first visit.
