Summer on the river: the garden runs down to the towpath and the terrace is open for evening drinks.

Breakfast

How it works

Cooked to order, never to a schedule

Tell us the night before or decide at the table. The full English is the house standard: butcher's sausages, dry-cured bacon, eggs any way, proper mushrooms and toast from our own loaf. There is a vegetarian version that is nobody's consolation prize.

Otherwise: porridge with cream and whisky-soaked raisins, French toast with berries, kippers on Sundays, and a flat white James is quietly competitive about.

A fried egg on sourdough toast
Waffles with fruit and juice on a busy breakfast table
French toast stacked with banana and blueberries
Two flat whites touched together over the table
A mug of tea with biscuits
Cherry blossom against a spring sky

Allergies

Tell us when you book and we will cook around it properly: gluten free bread and sausages are always in, not an afterthought.

On the terrace

On fine mornings we lay breakfast outside; the record is a frosty morning in November, under blankets, by unanimous vote.

Early starts

Catching a flight or a meeting? We will leave a continental tray and a flask ready from 6.30am. Just ask the evening before.
